OFF TO THE THAILAND OPEN
August 24 2010

Well I have arrived in Pattaya for the Thailand Open this week. I was out early for the ProAm yesterday morning and discovered a very wet golf course yet one which I think I will do well on. It plays quite long with many par 4's over 400m but at the same time there are some par 5's under 500m which should get carved up given good driving!

I am planning to do a few hours prac today before being the first player to tee off on Thursday morning! This is a great draw for me as I have heard that the weather is coming in tomorrow around lunchtime. With the course being already very wet and the forecast for more rain all week, the earlier I can get out the better with regard to delays etc.

My game is in pretty good shape this week after the last 2 weeks of preparation so I am heading into this event with confidence and feeling fresh having not played in a tournament for 4 weeks.

I will let you all know how I am going as the week progresses.

Good golfing!

Michael

Busy back half for 2010!

Well after a fair first half to 2010, I am now settling into a 4 week break from tournament golf to refresh and get the body into shape for an aggressive assault on the remaining tournaments for 2010.

The last tournament I played, the Capricorn Rydges Classic in Yepoon was extremely challenging for me. It was a week where my ball striking (which is usually my strength) really let me down so I spent way more time than usual on the range trying to find "it". As the week progressed, I was striking the ball really, really low and just struggled to get it with any sort of flight. It wasn't until the final round that I was able to strike it the way I would normally and all my hard work on the range paid off as I shot 2 under in demanding winds on a strong golf course which elevated me from 28th position starting the day to finishing the tournament in 12th position. I am really excited about the way I have been finishing off tournaments on the last day this year. When the conditions have been demanding, I seem to be able to "go to the next level" and climb the leader board with ease!

A tremendous positive for the week in Yepoon, was that my chipping and putting were as good as they have ever been which is a great sign for when my ball striking comes around! As always, it's just a matter of gelling the 2 together and when this happens, it's usually a winning week!

As I said earlier the next 4 weeks are going to be resting up with the family (first week or so) and getting the body feeling strong again working with my physical trainer at EGFA. One thing I am going to incorporate which is a little different for me is to introduce a little running every day (not too much as I know it's tough on the knees!) which will help with my fitness coming down the stretch of the 4 rounders towards the end of the year.

Well that's it from me so stay tuned for my next update and I will let you know then of my progress leading into the next event, The Thailand Open at the end of August.

Good Golfing

Japan Q School Update

Latest News  05-10-2009

Michael got through the 2nd stage of Japan Q School last week.

Michael shot rounds of 72,74,70 (even par) before the last round was cancelled due to heavy rain. The tournament was then decided on 3 round totals. This meant that there were 44 or so players on even par or better with only 34 players to progress through so it then went to a countback from the 3rd round for the 10 guys on even par (Michael included!). Michael's score of 2 under on the 3rd day was good enough to claim 33rd spot which meant he could progresss through to Tochigi at the end of this month for the 3rd stage.

Michael is off to China on Sunday for the Midea China Classic which is part of the One Asia Tour. Then there is a one week spell where he will stay at practice at Mission Hills Golf Resort in China then head straight over to Japan for the 3rd stage.
